A campaign to help advance cardiac surgery services, here at home in Oceanside, including open heart.
Mount Sinai South Nassau, a trusted name in serving patients for nearly 100 years on Long Island’s South Shore, has launched a landmark initiative to transform heart health in the region: #bringinghearthome is a major philanthropic campaign to help establish advanced cardiac surgery services in Oceanside, Long Island.
The campaign reflects a powerful vision: to ensure that patients on the South Shore have access to the very best in cardiac surgical care where they need it most, without having to travel to Manhattan or the North Shore. At the heart of this new initiative is the unique opportunity to give patients access to the leading surgeons from the Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital at The Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, which ranks No. 2 nationally for cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report. It also ranks No. 1 in New York according to 2025 Newsweek’s “The World’s Best Specialized Hospitals.”
Our goal is to raise $5 million over the next three years to help fund the equipment and infrastructure needed.
Every contribution will help to provide the highest level of cardiac care—right here, close to home.

Almost 30 years after first heart attack, Valley Stream grandmother again turns to Mount Sinai South Nassau for expert cardiovascular care
In 1993, Anita Rothenberg of Valley Stream was first admitted to Mount Sinai South Nassau’s ER in Oceanside and treated for a heart attack at the age of 37. She recovered, raised a family and worked as a teacher on Long Island for the next 29 years.
Then, in November of 2022, an angiogram showed three blocked arteries. She underwent triple bypass surgery a few days later at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital in Manhattan and completed her cardiac rehabilitation close to home at Mount Sinai South Nassau.
This program, including open heart surgery, is expected to begin this spring—right here at home in the new Feil Family Pavilion.
Our community will benefit from some of the most elite cardiac surgeons in the world. Pioneers in cardiovascular surgery will bring their expertise to our area, delivering care that consistently sets national benchmarks for quality, safety, and long-term outcomes.
